This week and beyond (RESPONSE REQUIRED PLEASE)
All, firstly a decent performance yesterday and another win (21-0) which was great. Keeping the opposition to zero points is always a good feat! It also takes is into the new year with our unbeaten run intact which can’t be bad!! Well done to all involved. A few updates for the coming weeks:
1) Training for this week and next will be on Wednesday only, 7pm at Ahmadi. These will be fun sessions with mainly touch and a few drills (fitness stuff mainly). Please come along if at all possible. It is essential we keep the momentum going.
2) We have our first away games coming up in the new year and need responses asap please (EVEN IF YOU CANNOT PLAY). The sooner we book the flights the better the deal the club will get. As you should know we are not in the strongest financial state so early responses are very important as well as common courtesy.
a. We play two games in two days in Dubai on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th January, vs. Dubai Wasps and Toa Dubai respectively. We will be leaving early Friday morning (13th January), returning on the Saturday night (14th January). Cost per person will be 20KD for flight with an additional amount for a hotel for the Friday night (should be around 10 or 12KD per head). The club will subsidize the remainder which can’t be bad!!! Garret and Aziz I know you are both yes’s for this trip but please send me your full name (see below * for reason).
b. We play Muscat on 3rd February. Not sure of flight plans as yet.
* All yes’s please provide me your full name as per your passport (for flight booking).
3) Some people are still to pay part or indeed all of the membership fees for this season, please do this asap otherwise a naming and shaming policy will be applied.
Cheers
Ben

Rugby update for this week
All,
Dubai 7′s
First to those that played in the 7′s, well done. Despite the results the performances of all the teams were pretty good. The jump in standard for the mens team in relation to last years league was significant which explained why we didn’t do as well. The ladies team are ever improving while the vets was a small but very happy band of merry men. Overall it was a very enjoyable weekend and I’m sure there are many of us who will be tired for a good few days! SPECIAL THANKS TO ONE OF OUR RESIDENT WELSHMAN, DAN HOLSGROVE FOR HIS ORGANISATIONAL EFFORTS, things went very smoothly which was down to Dan. Also, quick healing for Deena and Jamie from their nasty injuries.
Dubai 7′s kit
Could all men who played please bring your shirt (washed) to training to give to Rania as there is a game this weekend (see below for details). In terms of the vets kit Jon Law, Gabe and Fadi (has Case’s top) please bring to training on Wednesday as well. Number 14 vets is missing so if anyone has that please bring it. Peter O, you owe 10KD for your playing shirt so please bring that. IF YOU CANNOT MAKE WEDNESDAY PLEASE BRING TO THE GAME FOR FRIDAY.
This week
Training will be at 7pm on Wednesday at Ahmadi. We have a game on Friday versus Al Ain at home so training attendance is vital. Kick off time for Friday it to be confirmed but should be for around 2 or 3pm I think. All men, please let me know if you can play pre Wednesday. If you can’t make the Wednesday training please also let me know. Several of you are still due some or all of your membership subs, these should also be brought on Wednesday. It is only fair to those that have paid full membership fees that all others do the same!!!!!
Cheers

This Week
All, firstly a much improved performance on Thursday night against Muscat, great effort from all involved. Tougher tests to come of course so lets keep improving over the coming weeks and months!
Training for the next two weeks will be more 7′s specific (our next competitive rugby is at the Dubai 7′s at the start of December). Despite this ALL (including those not involved in the 7′s) are more than welcome and indeed encouraged to train, please lets continue the good training numbers, it is paying off.
Tomorrow night we will be at Marina Crescent (7pm start). Details for Wednesday will be confirmed later in the week
Cheers

It’s GAME TIME
All, please note training will be at Ahmadi on both nights (Sunday and Wednesday at 7pm). Last week was good with over 20 guys at training both nights, let’s keep it up please!!
It is a big week as we have our first league game vs. Doha at home next Friday. Kick off for that will be around 4.30pm. PLEASE ADVISE (EVERYONE, EVEN IF YOU’VE ALREADY TOLD ME VERBALLY) IF YOU CAN PLAY.
The following week we will hopefully have another game (Wednesday 2nd November) vs. HMS Argyll. I am waiting to hear back from the ship re the time although have said it will have to be night time for us (circa 7.30pm kick off). Please try and keep free for that at this stage….
Re the upcoming training sessions we will be focusing on team stuff (particularly on Wednesday), please make it both nights if you can, Wednesday is essential.
Cheers
Ben

Membership
Hi Everyone
As I’m sure you all know from the emails there are a lot of people that have still not paid their memberships for the season.
Most of the new players have paid their full membership, it is the older / existing players that are not paying. This has got to change, it is unfair for a small few players to pay for everyone else to train and play for free.
The committee have had a meeting and decided we will offer you the option to pay your membership in a few different ways.
Option 1 – Pay your 70kd membership.
Option 2 – 35kd by the end of October and 35kd by the end of November – total 70kd.
Option 3 – 25kd by the end of October, 25kd by the end of November and 25kd by the end of January.
Taking this into account it has also been decided that anyone that has not paid at least 50kd by the end of November will not be playing in the 7s. If you can afford to go to the 7s then you can afford to pay your membership.
If you have any reasons or excuses for not paying by one of these options then let me know ASAP, I would love to hear them.

Scorpions Start Season with a Sting
The Kuwait Scorpions Ladies Rugby team successfully kicked off their 2011-2012 rugby season with a tournament hosted by the Dubai Exiles on October 7th, 2011. The ladies team began their day against the Dragonettes second team. Rania Nafissah scored her first try of the season early in the game, while captain Kelly Neeson stepped up to score two points for the conversion. The Dragonettes battled back to score their first points of the season, resulting in a tie game when the final whistle blew.
The Scorpions then faced two tough and focused Abu Dhabi teams. Despite the strong defensive efforts of forwards Jenny Lodge, Talena Smith and newcomer Margaret Sandberg, the team was unable to stop strong Abu Dhabi sides, losing both of these games.
For their final match Kuwait again faced off against the Dragonettes. Despite losing a player to injury, the team stepped up determined to get their first win of the season. Strong decision making by Jen Berry and solid passing by Pearl Williamson helped the team score four tries, winning their first game of the season 20-0.
Jenny Lodge was selected as player of the tournament for her strong defensive efforts. The Scorpions look forward to even more success in their next tournament on October 21.
Anyone interested in joining the Scorpions team should contact Coach Jen Berry at myst53@hotmail.com or captain Kelly Neeson at kellyneeson@yahoo.com
